My Teaching Philosophy
Developing
Interests
Interest over talent
Interest in music, in my opinion, is far more important than raw talent. Students who have a strong passion and interest in music will definitely do better than those who are simply talented. They will be more determined to take up challenges and overcome obstacles as they enjoy what they are doing. I will definitely go the extra mile for all my students to cultivate their interest in music.
Building
Foundations
Foundational training should start as early as possible
Once the students have an interest in music, I will place an emphasis on building their foundation, from correct sitting postures, notes reading, counting, aural training, fingering and technique. Foundational work is essential as once it has been laid down properly, students will be able to produce beautiful tones in their music playing. Hence, foundational training should start as early as possible. If students lack a strong foundation, they will develop bad habits which may cause them technical issues in the long term.

Being
Responsible
Being responsible is my job
In the past, I did not perform up to my own expectations until I met my new teacher who prepared me for my Grade 8 exams. She was very responsible, making sure that I learnt the right things, and as a result, I did well for both my Grade 8 practical and theory exams. She has inspired me to apply the same passion and sense of responsibility to my own students, to make sure that their hard work and passion are rewarded and nurtured. My efforts have paid off, as most of my students achieved at least pass with Merit for their exams.
